Rally driver Tim Coronel has introduced the new electrical buggy for the 2012 editon of the Dakar. It has as basis the McRae 4*2 buggy but fitted with an electrical drivetrain. The technical installation is taken care of by All Green Vehicles in Oosterhout, the Netherlands. With Prodakar Tim Coronel won the solo class of the most demanding rally in the world. Now the prototype is ready to be used, it will be subject to a severe test in various weather types, roads in different states of degredation. This year, the extremely hot and dry Atacama desert can be the deciding factor in the endurance race through South America. So a test programme will take the team to the Netherlands, Spain, France and Morocco. The experiences gained during the tests will lead to the final design of the EV rally car.

Full-electric Dakar Participant

Tim Coronel onthulde op Syntens elektrische mo...

The Dakar is a heavy rally and requires a lot. Tim Coronel, in his quest to improve, was first looking into making the buggy lighter – as many did. Until he met up with Aalbers Industries, who gave him into consideration to go full-electric. Knowledge to create this kind of rally car is obtained by Novolectric and All Green Vehicles. Also TU professor Wubbo Ockels is participating in this initiative. Doing so, they are looking into equipping the service trucks with solar panels.

In 2012 Tim is racing with Pro Dakar again. The Dakar organisation ASO is looking into the electric project with interest as this can be an incentive to make the rally greener. Tim Coronel at least is adding a new dimension to the event, and to the sport.

The car of the Loosdrecht equipe

The Datusin 240Z that took a carload of prizes home

The team of Herman van Oldenmark/ Fred Hak from Loosdrecht, The Netherlands, has participated to the Rallye Monte Carlo this year. Out of the 328 starting participants, they finished on the 34th place. They won the first place in their class. A good performance with their Datsun 240Z! As usual, they had to face snow and ice during the stages whcih included the Col de Turini. The roads were even more icy than usual as the spectators arrived. Finally, they were the best Dutch participants, the best Datsun (because they were the only Datsun?), winner of Category III and 34th overall.

Since I have updated the rally calendar page and the Dakar has started (and first victims fell already). WRC has as a video showing how beautiful the sport is!

What’s that – a rally car not for daily use?

Why not take your rally car for a ride to the winter sports?

Why not take your rally car for a ride to the winter sports?

If you see a problem, you see the solution as well! If you have that everyday environmentally-friendly but otherwise useless car and you want to have a go at the wintersport, why don’t you take a car that you’ve used to challenge muddy, dusty and snowy raods anyway? The Ford Focus WRC is good for it, don’t you think? Well, just start, put the skis on top and the cases inside and go to the snow and the ski slopes! You will not be the only one embracing this concept. However, looking at the signs at the side, I’d doubt if the driver really likes the snow or prefers the sunshine.

Annual review Ford WRC 2010

leave a comment »

The WRC Season 2010 has ended and the year is walking on its last legs as well… a good time for a review you would think! And as the snow outside doesn’t make going out attractive (I have tot take care of my words here I realise) if possible at all, Ford has made a 10-minute review of the last year of performances. It’s worth looking at the Focus WRC performing in various parts of the world. So what more to say than ‘enjoy it’?

The 25-year old Dennis Kuipers is participating in the FIA World Rally Championship with a Ford Fiesta RS WRC prepared by M-Sport. He aims to start in ten rallies for the WRC. It is the first time a Dutch driver is participating this intensively. He will start in the Swedish Rally (10-13 February) where Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala start in the same car, but also Sebastien Loeb will be starting. His car will carry the Ipatec colour scheme, which cooperation already existed in this saison.
